A little history:

The PPE comes in 2003. In its first version postulated 198 texts of all genres. The jury selected a text that received the Journalism Award of Excellence, ten winning entries and ten finalists, all of which form the anthology became a journalist. The Prize was awarded to the article "Speak now or forever", which refers to the beginning of the reform of criminal procedure that was introduced in Chile. anent of the U.S. magazine The New Yorker and author of the book The Orchid Thief, among others who presented the first prize.
511 in 2004 postulated journalism and the guest was the founding director of the Committee of Concerned Journalists, Bill Kovach. Former chief editor of the New York Times Washigton is co-author with Tom Rosenstiel of The Elements of Journalism: What Newspeople Should Know and the Public Should Expect (Crown 2001). First place
PPE 2004 was for the article "Victor Jara: Blood of a Poet", published in Chile and Argentina edition of Rolling Stone in September 2003. Following the commemoration of 30 years of military coup in Chile, the newspaper what happened in the period between the arrest of Chilean singer / songwriter and his death at the Estadio Chile. A year later, Pena won, with that same report, the Lorenzo Natali Prize of the European Union and was a finalist for the award-FNPI Nuevo Periodismo CEMEX.
Unlike previous years,
selection in 2005 was based on four categories: interview, hit news, interview or profile view.The jury chose a first prize for the best jobs any categories, whose author was $ 1,000,000 and in 2005 went to the article "The True Story of the rafter," published in The Mercury by journalist Francisco Aravena. The work highlights the great fallacy that was woven around the girl who allegedly was transferred daily on a piece of Styrofoam to their school in Puerto Gala. In addition, a text was chosen winner in each of the remaining categories and 22 finalists were published in the book recopilatorio.Ese year besides Journalism Award of Excellence was selected by the Competition Council of the Book and Reading.
In the 2006 version received Alred or of 450 nominations from various media and the Journalism Award of Excellence honored the story "The Curse of the drug without a head" on the case of George Lund. The article by journalist Pablo Vergara was published in The Clinic on June 15, 2006 and the jury highlighted the reporting structure and text. The selection included 26 other articles, which are part of the compilation book currently available from better bookstores.
