BASES JOURNALISM EXCELLENCE AWARD 2008

1. Alberto Hurtado University, through its School of Journalism, calls the directors, editors, reporters and columnists in print media in Chile, to participate in the sixth version of the Award Journalism Excellence for newspapers.

2. The jury for the 2008 PPE will consist of:

Eliana Rozas: journalist and graduate of Catholic University Law. He was dean of the School of Communications at the university and CEO of Channel 13. In 2005 he received the Journalism Award Andina. Andrea Vial: Journalist of the Catholic University and director of the School of Journalism at the UAH. He worked in television as reporter and producer, was editor of Faces ; panelist on radio and created Duna Novasur educational project. Is director of the Journalism Award of Excellence.

3. Are eligible for the prize pieces published between 1 January 2008 and December 31, 2008 in any print or digital that has been edited, published and distributed in Chile. Can not apply corporate or trade publications, newsletters or publications in languages \u200b\u200bother than English. The media must have a frequency at least bi-monthly, and copies have been published throughout the year. In the case of a digital medium, it must have existed throughout the year.

4. Can only Award apply digital media that have a significant amount of original content, a distinctive editorial line and have at least one editor who makes decisions about the content, tone and point of view of the medium. The medium should have the primary role to inform and entertain, not sell products or promote businesses or services. Excludes personal blogs. The PPE jury reserves the right to decide if a qualified digital media as a means or not.

5. The jury will choose the best journalistic articles of the year in Chile, by category. The categories involved are:

- Report
- Interview or Profile
- Opinion column
- Criticism or Review
- Chronicle News

6. For the first time this year the jury of PPE given a special award for best written work from the press.

7. The jury may choose the number of pieces determined in each category. It may also be declared void if any part category deserves to be rewarded.

8. There will be a first prize, called the Journalism Excellence Award 2008 for the best selected papers, whose author will receive $ 1,000,000.

9. All texts selected by the jury will be published in a compilation book to be published by the Universidad Alberto Hurtado. The publication, which will continue year, will be sold in bookstores across the country and promoted as compulsory literature in all national schools of journalism. In the case of the entries for journalism, they will be published in the holder on the website of the PPE. The book will refer to the digital address of the Honorees.

10. The call for Journalism Excellence Award 2008 opens for three periods:
a) First Call / August 6 - August 21: pieces published since 1 January 2008 to August 21, 2008.
b) Second Call / October 20 - November 4: for pieces published from 22 August 2008 to November 4, 2008.
c) Third Call / December 14 - December 31: for pieces published from November 5, 2008 to December 31, 2008.

11. The pieces can be presented by the media, journalists or authors of the articles, who can present the award all work together to consider the merits to apply. The Prize may make a selection by the court to consider valuable work and have not been submitted by their publishers or authors.

12. Applications should include:

- Cut original or legible photocopy of a letter size sheet.
- The text as it was published as text file, without pictures or diagrams, printed on letter size paper.
- On an attached sheet should contain the following information: title, author's name, identification of the author in case of signing with a pseudonym, e-mail contact, category to which a candidate, media name, date of publication, page section.

13. Applications should be sent Journalism Excellence Award, School of Journalism University Alberto Hurtado, Alameda 1869, Santiago.

14. Award may not apply to jurors or their relatives. Nor can participate plant academics from the School of Journalism at the Universidad Alberto Hurtado or their immediate families.

15. The nomination of journalism Award implies acceptance of these terms and the transfer of copyright of the texts in the book collections.

16. The Award will be presented in April 2009 at an official ceremony.
